The problem
Health-conscious customers in Ahmedabad had no tiffin service that showed the calories and macros of each meal, catered for vegetarian and Swaminarayan diets, and let them manage their subscription online.
Most tiffin delivery in India is unorganized and runs on phone calls and cash. The existing services were not built for online use.
What we built
An installable web app with weekly and monthly plans, checkout through Razorpay with GST, login by a code texted to the customer's phone, referral and sales-agent tracking, and corporate plans for offices.
Plans and meals
The two-meal plan covers lunch and dinner. The three-meal plan covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a drink. Customers choose regular or Swaminarayan meals from a rotating menu of 30 items, each listed with its calories and macros. Meals are delivered before 8 am, Monday to Saturday. New customers can start with a trial package, the 6-Day Taste Drive.
Customers can skip up to four times a month, with an 8 pm cutoff, and add roti, rice, dal, salad or buttermilk by the serving.
Built for India
Login by phone number is the norm in India. Razorpay takes UPI, cards and netbanking, and renews subscriptions by automatic debit. Prices are in rupees with 5% GST. Ola Maps suggests the delivery address as it is typed, and the day’s menu and reminders arrive by push notification.
Offices and sales agents
Offices can order meals in bulk on a corporate plan. Field sales agents each have a QR code, and the app tracks their commission.
Result
TruBites is live at trubites.in, serving customers in Ahmedabad. New customers sign up in four steps, and plans renew by automatic debit.
Technical notes
How it is built
The app runs on Next.js 16 and its App Router, React 19, and Tailwind CSS v4 with light and dark themes. As a progressive web app (PWA), it installs on a phone like any other app.
Firebase provides the Firestore database (more than 11 collections, with composite indexes for queries on several fields), phone login through Firebase Auth, and push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging. The Ola Maps API handles address suggestions and geocoding (placing an address on the map). Blog posts are written in MDX. Vercel hosts the app and runs its scheduled (cron) jobs.
Every change must pass 22 end-to-end tests, run against a test copy of Firebase, plus unit tests, type checks and a Lighthouse speed budget for mobile.
